Kampmann saluted at memorial service at Uni

A note sent to friends last night stated: “With deep sadness, this message is to inform you that Coach Dick Kampmann passed away this afternoon at 2:12 p.m. at his home in Santa Monica. [Posted Jan. 19, 2017] The mission of the Uni Hi Education Foundation is to raise funds for the continued support of Uni’s academic, athletic and performing arts programs. Created in 1985 to counter the effects on Uni of budget cuts across the L.A. Unified School District, more than $1 million has been raised to assist faculty and students. Uni’s “School Report Card” now posted online

[Posted Jan. 12, 2017] The Los Angeles Unified School District has posted Uni’s 2015-16 School Report Card with data on Uni’s demographics, environment and performance. Some highlights: Attendance: 1,671 students across grades 9-12 Demographics: 55% Latino, 24% African-American, 10% White, 9% Asian-Filipino; 2% did not declare Graduate in 4 years: 89% (vs. LAUSD average of 75%) Students enrolled in an Advanced Placement class: 25% (vs. LAUSD average of 25%) The breakdown of student backgrounds included the following statistics: 71% Socioeconomically disadvantaged 19% Gifted and talented 12% Students with Disabilities There […]

Uni alum Steve Smith Sr. retires from football

[Posted Jan. 8, 2017] “Dear Commissioner Goodell: “This is to notify you that as of today, I, Steve Smith Sr., will no longer be antagonizing defensive backs. I am retiring from the National Football League.” With that letter, sent January 2, the greatest football player ever to attend University High School ended what could be a Hall of Fame career as an NFL star. Inaugural Uni Film Festival slated for April 28-29

[Posted December 15, 2016] Los Angeles is the long-time home of the U.S. entertainment industry and in the heyday of the Hollywood studios, Uni’s was its favored high school, with alums such as Jeff Bridges, Ryan O’Neal, Elizabeth Taylor and Norma Baker, later known as Marilyn Monroe. “Shrek The Musical” auditions coming

[Posted December 8, 2016] “The Fantasticks” was a major-league hit for the Uni theater team, but there’s no rest, especially with another show to do! Uni’s Director of Theatre Arts, Ronnie Sperling, has booked Disney’s “Shrek The Musical” for the spring, bringing the beloved green ogre to the stage of the re-vitalized Stivelman Theater next April 19-22.
