Memorial Service for Dick Kampmann on Saturday, Feb. 4

[Posted Jan. 30, 2017] To honor the greatest coach in University High School history – Dick Kampmann – a memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Uni’s Stivelman Theater on Saturday, February 4, beginning at 11 a.m. Street parking is available and all are welcome. Kampmann passed away on January 23, aged 92, at his longtime home in Santa Monica and was surrounded by family and friends until the end. A note sent to friends last night stated: “With deep sadness, this message is to inform you that Coach Dick Kampmann passed away this afternoon at 2:12 p.m. at his home in Santa Monica. He was with family at the end and at age 92, lived a full and meaningful life. [Posted Jan. 19, 2017] The mission of the Uni Hi Education Foundation is to raise funds for the continued support of Uni’s academic, athletic and performing arts programs. Created in 1985 to counter the effects on Uni of budget cuts across the L.A. Unified School District, more than $1 million has been raised to assist faculty and students. Uni alum Steve Smith Sr. retires from football

[Posted Jan. 8, 2017] “Dear Commissioner Goodell: “This is to notify you that as of today, I, Steve Smith Sr., will no longer be antagonizing defensive backs. I am retiring from the National Football League.” With that letter, sent January 2, the greatest football player ever to attend University High School ended what could be a Hall of Fame career as an NFL star. Inaugural Uni Film Festival slated for April 28-29

[Posted December 15, 2016] Los Angeles is the long-time home of the U.S. entertainment industry and in the heyday of the Hollywood studios, Uni’s was its favored high school, with alums such as Jeff Bridges, Ryan O’Neal, Elizabeth Taylor and Norma Baker, later known as Marilyn Monroe. David Nwaba ‘11 now playing for L.A. D-Fenders

[Posted November 15, 2016] Congratulations to David Nwaba ‘11, who made the roster of the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the NBA Development League team of the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA. He’s made an immediate impact off the bench, scoring 11 points (and seven rebounds) in the season opener vs. Iowa and then 15 points (and five rebounds) at Santa Cruz, both wins for the D-Fenders.
