Remembering Maj. Gen. Paul Dettmer ‘73

[Posted January 4, 2015] It is with considerable sadness that we report the passing of Maj. Gen. Paul Dettmer, a 1973 Uni grad, on December 29.

Just 59, Dettmer had been battling cancer, as reported on October 7. He died at his home in Centreville, Virginia, with his family. Many more details of his life and career are included in a lengthy obituary here.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy and children Ali and Andrew, as well as brothers Tommy and Bob, and a sister, Susan. According to the instructions included in the obituary,

Dettmer was a varsity basketballer for Coach Tom Anderson at Uni before heading to the U.S. Air Force Academy to start a 33-year career of service to our country. Thank you, Paul.

    May God bless you Paul and your family. You were a good teammate and guy. I had no idea of your rise in the Air Force. I’m sure you are bringing your good energy and honest efforts, to wherever you may be.
